Learn to Sail at Rosebud Yacht Club – Junior Sailing Program

At Rosebud Yacht Club, sailing starts young. Our Junior Sailing Program is designed for kids who want to learn new skills, make friends, and enjoy the freedom of the bay.

The course begins on shore, where children are introduced to their boats and the basics of safety, wind, and water. From there, they move quickly into hands-on learning—rigging their own dinghies, setting sail, and feeling the thrill of steering for the very first time.

Under the guidance of qualified instructors and experienced volunteers, each session builds confidence step by step. Children learn how to:

• Steer and control a dinghy safely

• Trim sails to catch the wind

• Balance the boat and recover from a capsize

• Work as a team while gaining independence

Every course is structured to combine fun with skill development. Games on the water, mini races, and plenty of practice keep the learning exciting. Parents love seeing the progress each week—watching as their children go from first-timers to capable sailors.

The shallow, sheltered waters off Rosebud make the perfect training ground, and our focus on safety means that every child can explore sailing in a supportive environment.

By the end of the program, young sailors are ready to take the next step—whether that’s joining in on club racing, moving up to larger boats, or simply enjoying sailing as a family activity.
