Capel Sound Invitational Window

The Capel Sound Invitational is an annual fun-focused sailing event held after Christmas by the Rosebud Yacht Club in partnership with the Rye Yacht Club. It’s a single-day event in a short weather window from December 27-30, designed for single-reach sailing with a simple course set on the waters off the sandbar between Rye and Rosebud Yacht Clubs. The event is free to enter and has grown to include over 100 entries from various clubs around the bay, making it the largest dedicated single-reach event in Australia.

Collaboration: It’s a joint effort between Rosebud Yacht Club and Rye Yacht Club.

Date: It takes place within a weather window between December 27 and December 30 each year.

Focus: The event is about having fun and enjoying the sailing culture with a course designed for “reaches”.

Course: A simple, single-reach course is set just outside the 5-knot zone in the beautiful waters between the two clubs, with the start and finish lines being the same.

Entrants: Boats from clubs all around the bay participate.

Cost: Entry is free.
