SUMMARY:Capel Sound Invitational Window
DESCRIPTION:The Capel Sound Invitational is an annual fun-focused sailing event held after Christmas by the Rosebud Yacht Club in partnership with the Rye Yacht Club. It’s a single-day event in a short weather window from December 27-30\, designed for single-reach sailing with a simple course set on the waters off the sandbar between Rye and Rosebud Yacht Clubs. The event is free to enter and has grown to include over 100 entries from various clubs around the bay\, making it the largest dedicated single-reach event in Australia. \nCollaboration: It’s a joint effort between Rosebud Yacht Club and Rye Yacht Club. \nDate: It takes place within a weather window between December 27 and December 30 each year. \nFocus: The event is about having fun and enjoying the sailing culture with a course designed for “reaches”. \nCourse: A simple\, single-reach course is set just outside the 5-knot zone in the beautiful waters between the two clubs\, with the start and finish lines being the same. \nEntrants: Boats from clubs all around the bay participate. \nCost: Entry is free.

We have a social night following the event. It’s going to be a banger! \nThe rules and sailing instructions remain the same – 1 lap for monos\, 2 laps for cats. And the best part of it all also remains the same – leave from your own club\, return to your own club\, and then put the boat back into its pyjamas into your own club. No need to de-mast it or anything! \nBut we hear you ask about the wind direction. Well\, we heard your voice loud and clear last year – you just want to send it\, full noise and on the raggedy edge. As Lord Nelson once said\, \n‘Never mind the manoeuvres\, just go straight at them!’ \nHang the tactics\, hang the angles\, let’s just go for speed. So that’s what we are doing – we’ve got our window for racing\, and we are just picking the best conditions. A flat out reach. \nSo that’s what we are doing. Other clubs think we are bonkers – we just think it’s fun. \nThe details: \nDecember 27/28/29/30 (depending on the best conditions) \nRace start: approx. 1:30pm \nWhere: Start from your own club (Rosebud or Rye) \nConditions: 500ml of fresh\, drinkable water per person must be on board the boat \nHow will we know which day is chosen? Keep a weather eye\, and a sharp watch on communication platforms like email\, facebook and whatsapp. \nSynchronised starts\, multiple support boats\, and even a few windsurfers and McCrae boats coming to the party this year too… It’s going to be epic. \nOh! And don’t forget the battle continues at the bar afterwards – Escape Brewery (behind Bunnings)\, 6pm that night. \nWe look forward to seeing you out there!
